S3 Episode 2 | NFL Combine 40 Yard Dash
In this episode, Coach Young takes us through the setup of the 40 yard dash used in NFL combine testing to measure an athletes speed. More specifically, the 40 yard dash is a test of acceleration analyzing the athletes performance at 10 yards, to 20 yards to 40 yards.
Setting the SMARTSPEED timing gates up at at 10, 20 and 40 yards will enable you to measure how fast your athlete is at the various intervals, and how quickly they can accelerate over various distances.
The setup of your athlete for the 40 yard dash is also critical to success – what they do before they even start running will determine how successfully they can generate power, and accelerate through the 40 yard dash.
Pro Tip: Use the Force Velocity Profile algorithm via your SMARTSPEED timing system for a more holistic view of your athletes abilities.
